King Kamehameha was awarded Best Three-Year-Old Colt in Japan in 2004. King Kamehameha won the Tokyo Yushun (Japanese Derby), beating subsequent Grade 1 winner Heart's Cry, with setting a course record. He also won the NHK Mile Cup before the Japanese Derby.
King Kamehameha entered stud in Japan in 2005. Among his best progeny are Japanese Horse of the Year, two-time Hong Kong Sprint winner Lord Kanaloa, Tokyo Yushun (Japanese Derby) and Satsuki Sho (Japanese 2000 Guineas) winner Duramente, Tokyo Yushun (Japanese Derby) winner Rey de Oro, Japan Cup winner Rose Kingdom, Japanese Fillies' Triple Crown winner Apapane, Japan Cup Dirt winner Belshazzar, Champions Cup winners Hokko Tarumae, Chuwa Wizard, and Jun Light Bolt, Queen Elizabeth II Cup winner Rulership, and NAR Horse of the Year and Tokyo Daishoten winner Diktaean.
King Kamehameha was crowned Japanese Champion Sire in 2010 and 2011.
King Kamehameha was inducted into the Japan Racing Association Racing Hall of Fame in 2024.
King Kamehameha died in 2019 at the age of 18.
