Mastery was born in 2014. He is by Candy Ride out of Steady Course by Old Trieste.
By North American Champion Sire Candy Ride, Mastery was a perfect 4 for 4 in his racing career, including dominant wins in the Grade 1 Los Alamitos Cash Call Futurity, in which he romped by 7 1/4 lengths at 2 and in the Grade 2 San Felipe Stakes by 6 3/4 lengths at 3. Considered by many as the early favorite for the Grade 1 Kentucky Derby, he unfortunately suffered a career-ending injury after the wire in the Grade 2 San Felipe Stakes.
Mastery entered stud in the U.S.A. in 2018. He moved to Japan for the 2024 season.
He has sired some good winners, including Midnight Memories, who won the Grade 2 Zenyatta Stakes, the Grade 3 Torrey Pines Stakes and the Grade 3 Bayakoa Stakes; Surprisingly, who won the Grade 3 Endeavour Stakes; and Arabian Gazelles, who finished 2nd in the Group 3 UAE Oaks.
