Espoir City was awarded Best Dirt Horse in Japan in 2009 and 2010. With his high cruising speed, Espoir City won seven Grade 1 (Jpn1) races over 1600 meters. He earned more than one billion Yen and held the tie record for most Grade 1 (Jpn1) wins with nine in Japan before Hokko Tarumae captured the record-breaking 10th Grade 1 (Jpn1) win in 2016.
Espoir City entered stud in Japan in 2014. Among his best progeny are Peisha Es, who won the Grade 3 Unicorn Stakes and the Grade 3 Elm Stakes; Igniter, who took the Listed (Jpn1) JBC Sprint and was awarded NAR Horse of the Year in 2022 and 2023; and Vacation, who won the Listed (Jpn1) Zen-Nippon Nisai Yushun.
