Kurofune was awarded Best Dirt Horse in Japan in 2001. Kurofune won the Japan Cup Dirt by seven lengths with setting a Japanese record. He performed very well also on turf and won the NHK Mile Cup.
Kurofune entered stud in Japan in 2002. Among his best progeny are Oka Sho (Japanese 1000 Guineas) winner Sodashi, Sprinters Stakes winners Mama Cocha, Curren Chan, and Sleepless Night, and NHK Mile Cup winners Aerolithe and Clarity Sky.
He died in 2021 at the age of 23.
