Maurice, a son of Japan Cup victor Screen Hero, was awarded Horse of the Year and Best Sprinter or Miler in Japan in 2015. Although he was unable to make the 3yo classics, he showed steady progress at 4 and concluded the incredible season with a perfect score of six wins out of as many starts including the Grade 1 Yasuda Kinen, the Grade 1 Mile Championship, and the Group 1 Hong Kong Mile. At 5 he returned to the scene with a dominant victory in the Group 1 Champions Mile in May, and then stepped up in trip and proved his brilliance over 2000 meters by winning the Grade 1 Tenno Sho (autumn) and the Group 1 Hong Kong Cup.
Maurice entered stud in Japan in 2017. His first crop hit the track in 2020. He got off to a brilliant start as a stallion. In 2021, Pixie Knight won the Grade 1 Sprinters Stakes in Japan, and Hitotsu landed the Group 1 Victoria Derby in Australia. In 2022, Hitotsu added two Group 1 victories to his resume by winning the Australian Guineas and the Australian Derby and joined turf legend Mahogany with historic Victoria Derby-Australian Guineas-Australian Derby treble. Also in 2022, Mazu extended his winning streak to six and claimed the Group 1 Doomben 10,000.
Among his other best progeny are Jack d'Or, who won the Grade 2 Kinko Sho; Shigeru Pink Ruby, who won the Grade 2 Fillies' Revue; and Rooks Nest, who took the Grade 3 Falcon Stakes.
