Drefong was born in 2013. He is by Gio Ponti out of Eltimaas by Ghostzapper.
Drefong was awarded Champion Male Sprinter in the U.S.A. in 2016.
By two-time American grass champion Gio Ponti, Drefong went undefeated in four starts at 3 in 2016, winning the Grade 1 Breeders' Cup Sprint and the Grade 1 King's Bishop Stakes. He added another Grade 1 victory at 4 when he dominated a tough field in the Forego Stakes, clocking 1:21.12 over seven furlongs on dirt at Saratoga.
Drefong entered stud in Japan in 2018. His first crop hit the track in 2021.
He got off to an excellent start as a stallion. In 2022, his first crop colt Geoglyph captured the Grade 1 Satsuki Sho (Japanese 2000 Guineas).
Among his other best progeny are Desierto, who won the Listed Wakaba Stakes on turf and the Listed Green Channel Cup on dirt; Consigliere, who took the Listed Oasis Stakes; and Kawakita Reverie, who finished 3rd in the Grade 1 NHK Mile Cup.
He was crowned Japanese Champion Freshman Sire in 2021.
