Orfevre was born in 2008. He is by Stay Gold out of Oriental Art by Mejiro McQueen.
Orfevre was awarded Horse of the Year and Best Three-Year-Old Colt in Japan in 2011 and Best Older Horse in Japan in 2012 and 2013. He became the seventh horse to win the Japanese Triple Crown. He also captured the Grade 1 Arima Kinen (Grand Prix) twice and the Grade 1 Takarazuka Kinen and finished 2nd in the Group 1 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe twice in a row.
Orfevre entered stud in Japan in 2014.
In 2021, Marche Lorraine won the Grade 1 Breeders' Cup Distaff and became the first Japanese-trained winner in a Grade 1 race on dirt in the U.S.A.
In 2022, Ushba Tesoro stormed home to take the Grade 1 Tokyo Daishoten in his first try at grade 1 company. Also in 2022, Authority won the Group 3 Neom Turf Cup in Saudi Arabia, and Shonan Nadeshiko took the Listed (Jpn1) Kashiwa Kinen, defeating males.
In 2023, Ushba Tesoro displayed an explosive stretch rally to capture the Group 1 Dubai World Cup, becoming the first Japanese-trained horse to win the race over the dirt course. He capped his season by winning the Grade 1 Tokyo Daishoten for the second year in a row and was given JRA Special Award. Also in 2023, Silver Sonic took the Group 3 Red Sea Turf Handicap in Saudi Arabia.
In 2024, Ushba Tesoro run very well in the Middle East, finishing 2nd both in the Group 1 Saudi Cup and the Group 1 Dubai World Cup.
Among his other best progeny are Epoca d'Oro, who captured the Grade 1 the Satsuki Sho (Japanese 2000 Guineas); and Lucky Lilac, who won four Grade 1 races: the Osaka Hai, the Queen Elizabeth II Cup (twice), the Hanshin Juvenile Fillies.
He was inducted into the Japan Racing Association Racing Hall of Fame in 2015.
