Gold Ship was born in 2009. He is by Stay Gold out of Point Flag by Mejiro McQueen.
Gold Ship was awarded Best Three-Year-Old Colt in Japan in 2012. He gained his first Grade 1 victory in the Grade 1 Satsuki Sho (Japanese 2000 Guineas) at 3, and added two more Grade 1 wins in the Grade 1 Kikuka Sho (Japanese St. Leger) and the Grade 1 Arima Kinen (Grand Prix) in the same year. He also made history when becoming the first horse to win two renewals of the Grade 1 Takarazuka Kinen at 4 and 5. He captured his sixth Grade 1 win in the Grade 1 Tenno Sho (spring) at 6.
Gold Ship entered stud in Japan in 2016.
In 2021, Uberleben won the Grade 1 Yushun Himba (Japanese Oaks) while giving her sire a first victory at the highest level.
Among his other best progeny are Win Kiitos, who captured the Grade 2 Meguro Kinen; Golden Hind, who took the Grade 2 Flora Stakes; and Win Mighty, who won the Grade 3 Mermaid Stakes and finished 3rd in the Grade 1 Yushun Himba (Japanese Oaks).
