Drefong was born in 2013. He is by Gio Ponti out of Eltimaas by Ghostzapper.
Drefong was awarded Champion Male Sprinter in the U.S.A. in 2016.
By two-time American grass champion Gio Ponti, Drefong went undefeated in four starts at 3 in 2016, winning the Grade 1 Breeders' Cup Sprint and the Grade 1 King's Bishop Stakes. He added another Grade 1 victory at 4 when he dominated a tough field in the Forego Stakes, clocking 1:21.12 over seven furlongs on dirt at Saratoga.
Drefong entered stud in Japan in 2018.
In 2022, his first crop colt Geoglyph captured the Grade 1 Satsuki Sho (Japanese 2000 Guineas).
Among his other best progeny are Mikki Fight, who won the Grade 3 Leopard Stakes and the Listed (Jpn3) Nagoya Daishoten and finished 2nd in the Listed (Jpn1) Japan Dirt Classic; Desierto, who won the Grade 3 Chunichi Shimbun Hai; Andes Viento, who took the Listed (Jpn2) Kanto Oaks; and Warp Speed, who finished 2nd in the Group 1 Melbourne Cup.
