Drefong was awarded Champion Male Sprinter in the U.S.A. in 2016. By two-time American grass champion Gio Ponti, Drefong went undefeated in four starts at 3 in 2016, winning the Grade 1 Breeders' Cup Sprint and the Grade 1 King's Bishop Stakes. He added another Grade 1 victory at 4 when he dominated a tough field in the Forego Stakes, clocking 1:21.12 over seven furlongs on dirt at Saratoga.
Drefong entered stud in Japan in 2018. In 2025, Star Anise captured the Grade 1 Hanshin Juvenile Fillies and was awarded Best Two-Year-Old Filly in Japan. Also in 2025, Mikki Fight captured the Listed (Jpn1) Teio Sho and the Listed (Jpn1) JBC Classic.
Among his other best progeny are Geoglyph, who captured the Grade 1 Satsuki Sho (Japanese 2000 Guineas); Admire Daytona, who won the Group 2 UAE Derby; Water Licht, who won the Grade 3 Tokyo Shimbun Hai and finished 3rd in the Grade 1 Mile Championship; and Warp Speed, who finished 2nd in the Group 1 Melbourne Cup.
Drefong was crowned Japanese Champion Freshman Sire in 2021.
