Bago was awarded Champion Three-Year-Old Colt in Europe in 2004. He won five Group 1 races including the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe and the Prix Ganay. He is from an outstanding family of Machiavellian, Northern Dancer, and Danehill. His half-brother Maxios is a winner of the Group 1 Prix du Moulin de Longchamp.
Bago entered stud in Japan in 2006. Among his best progeny are Chrono Genesis, who won the Grade 1 Arima Kinen (Grand Prix), the Grade 1 Takarazuka Kinen (twice), and the Grade 1 Shuka Sho; Big Week, who won the Group 1 Kikuka Sho (Japanese St. Leger); and Stella Veloce, who took the Grade 2 Kobe Shimbun Hai.
