Makfi was born in 2007. He is by Dubawi out of Dhelaal by Green Desert.
Makfi, a first crop son of Group 1 winner and now champion sire Dubawi, stormed to victory in the Group 1 2000 Guineas and became his sire's first winner at the highest level and first French-trained winner for 15 years. He added another Group 1 win when he defeated superstar mare Goldikova in the Group 1 Prix Jacques le Marois.
Makfi entered stud in Great Britain in 2011. He moved to Japan for the 2017 season. His first-crop colt Make Believe won the Group 1 Poule d'Essai des Poulains in France. Among his other best progeny are Mkfancy, who won the Group 1 Criterium de Saint-Cloud; and the Group 1 Australian Oaks winners Sofia Rosa and Bonneval.
