Shanghai Bobby was born in 2010. He is by Harlan's Holiday out of Steelin' by Orientate.
Shanghai Bobby was undefeated in five starts at 2, winning the Grade 1 Breeders' Cup Juvenile, the Grade 1 Champagne Stakes and the Grade 2 Hopeful Stakes, and was awarded Champion Two-Year-Old Colt in the U.S.A. in 2012. He was the early Kentucky Derby favorite, but missed the Triple Crown races due to an injury.
Shanghai Bobby entered stud in the U.S.A. in 2014. He moved to Japan for the 2019 season.
In 2023, Mandarin Hero became the first horse from NAR to compete in the U.S.A. when finishing 2nd in the Grade 1 Santa Anita Derby.
Among his other best progeny are Aero Trem, who won the Group 1 Gran Premio Latinoamericano; Coconut Bobby, who took the Group 1 Gran Premio St Leger; and Inforcer, who captured the Group 1 Grande Premio Jockey Club Brasileiro. In the U.S.A., Shancelot romped home in the Grade 2 Amsterdam Stakes by 12-1/2 lengths and finished 2nd in the Grade 1 Breeders' Cup Sprint.
